Collection: Gérard Bastien
Born in Arras, France, Gerard Bastien is a graduate of the Copenhagen School of Applied Arts and the KADK Kunstakademiets Designskole. After apprenticing as a draughtsman at the Glyptothek Museum in Copenhagen with R. Askou-Jensen as his teacher. He completed four years of study, focusing mainly on engraving techniques under the guidance of Maria Lüder Hansen. At the same time, he pursues his artistic approach to painting in his studio.
With a focus on printmaking, he finds his subjects in his everyday life, with figurative work based on drawing, sometimes photography on nature and city walks. His creative process lies somewhere between reality and memory.
His work expresses itself through the techniques of etching and aquatint, for the precision of the drawing, the possibility of nuances of light created by the paper, and xylography and linocut for their graphic strength.
He lives and works between Paris, at the Atelier aux Lilas for typography and printmaking, and his studio in Évreux.
